Of 1,000 companies nationwide, Bank of Hawaii is the only local bank on the list

HONOLULU, HAWAII

August 5th, 2024

Bank of Hawaii is named on a national ranking of “America’s Greatest Workplaces for Parents & Families 2024” by Newsweek. A total of 1,000 U.S. companies are listed. Bank of Hawaii is one of 17 banks nationwide to be recognized and one of two companies in the state of Hawaii. The ranking was published by Newsweek on Aug. 5 and can be found here.

Newsweek partnered with Plant-A Insights Group, a market research firm, to compile its second annual list of “America’s Greatest Workplaces for Parents & Families 2024.” From the perspective of parents, the study involved an assessment of publicly accessible data, discussions/interviews with HR professionals, and large-scale confidential online surveys conducted among parents working for U.S. companies with more than 500 employees in 2023 and with more than 1,000 employees in 2022. More than 113,000 parents in the U.S. were interviewed and over 693,000 comprehensive company reviews were collected that provided insights and experiences on corporate culture, working conditions, and other aspects of their current employer and other companies they are familiar with.

“Bank of Hawaii has an unwavering commitment to the well-being and growth of all our employees. This award, in particular, is an incredible honor. It’s not only based on responses and feedback, in part, from our own teammates and community, but it also underscores our ongoing efforts toward creating a supportive and flexible environment,” said Sharlene Ginoza-Lee, chief people officer at Bank of Hawaii.

Bank of Hawaii continues to provide a variety of family-friendly benefits/programs, such as its paid parental leave and the Bank of Hawaii Foundation Scholarship.

  • Bank of Hawaii’s paid parental leave provides 4-6 weeks of paid time off, depending on years of service. Employees may use the time during the first 12 months of welcoming a new baby, adoption or foster care placement; and for added flexibility, the time does not need to be used all at once
  • Now in its 11th year, the Bank of Hawaii Foundation Scholarship offers financial assistance to college-bound children and grandchildren of bank employees. Through its program administrator Hawaii Community Foundation, Bank of Hawaii Foundation has awarded 298 scholarships totaling $1,038,750 since the program’s inception in January 2014.
